Bio

Lila Magnin is a hybrid artist who expresses herself through video, social media, and on stage.

Her art navigates between institutions and independent projects, movement and voice, sound and visuals, depth and profound aesthetics. Her work is a constant and conscious search for freedom and the true self. It relentlessly explores the principle of complementary dualities, such as group/individual, feminine/masculine, old/new, life/death, anger/celebration...

Lila Magnin began dancing at the age of 3 with Bharata Natyam (traditional/classical Indian dance) and joined the Juste Debout School in Paris at the age of 18.

Returning to Belgium in 2013, she worked on various projects and released her first two self-produced songs/music videos. It was at this point that she also began coaching a team of young dancers in Brussels, for whom she choreographed, danced, and participated in various competitions.

She also continued to train around the world and in 2015, she moved to Australia for a year, where she earned a living performing street shows.

Since 2013, Lila Magnin has worked for various international artists, such as Vraja Sundari Keilman (Samadhi Dance Company, NL), Pitcho Womba Konga (KVS, BE), Andrew Ondrejcak (USA), Leslie Mannès (BE), Hussein Ali (IRAQ), and Thi Mai Nguyen (BE). As a collaborator/choreographic coach, she is currently working with Ilyas Mettioui (BE).

In 2019, she created her first piece, The #roof is on fire, a male quartet produced by Mars Mons arts de la scène and supported by the Commission de la Danse (Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles).

In 2021, Lila Magnin was given carte blanche to program the BAMP season opening night, where she invited battle, jazz, electronic music, stand-up, theater, and dance. That same year, she also created a short piece called Céleste, performed by a female trio, which she presented at Les Rendez-vous Secrets in Mons. This piece was then transformed into Street Show, a street version that her new mixed team went on to perform for La Balsamine and the municipality of Ixelles.

In April 2022, she presented her first solo show, Azad, co-produced by KVS and Mars Mons Arts de la scène, for which she also composed and produced the music. That same year, she began a small series of concerts, performing in cultural centers and at underground parties. This song/concert format led to her being supported by Monty, Corso, Rataplan, and Mestizo Arts Platform for a three-week residency where she explored live music.

Lila Magnin goes by Lila Magnifique for her musical projects and on social media, and Les Magnifiques for her choreographic projects.
